Most covered storage per kilo carried
Where do my bags go when it rains, and what does that space cost?
How this is ranked
Published vestibule area divided by minimum weight, one-person shelters only, largest first.
Vestibule area is where four wet bikepacking bags and a pair of shoes live overnight, and it is the spec people notice only after the first wet night. Dividing it by carried weight turns two numbers into the question actually being asked: how much dry floor am I getting per kilo. Restricted to one-person shelters on purpose — a 2P has both more vestibule and more weight, so mixing capacities would produce a ranking of capacity dressed up as a ranking of efficiency.
We don't field-test shelters. Weights, dimensions and capacities are the manufacturer's published specs, and where a maker doesn't publish a number we leave it out rather than estimate it — with one stated exception: a pole length marked from packed size is the packed bag's long dimension standing in for a figure the maker never published. On a conventional single-sack tent those are the same measurement.
