Trek Marlin 7 frame geometry, drawn to scale

Every tube angle and length below is from the published chart, not an illustration. The front triangle area is the number that decides which frame bags fit — and it changes a lot across sizes.

Trek Marlin 7 — XS. Front triangle ≈ 904 cm² · effective top tube 551mm · seat tube 340mm
Trek Marlin 7 in size XS, drawn to scale from Trek's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 904 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Trek Marlin 7 — S. Front triangle ≈ 1032 cm² · effective top tube 579mm · seat tube 370mm
Trek Marlin 7 in size S, drawn to scale from Trek's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1032 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Trek Marlin 7 — M. Front triangle ≈ 1251 cm² · effective top tube 615mm · seat tube 420mm
Trek Marlin 7 in size M, drawn to scale from Trek's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1251 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Trek Marlin 7 — ML. Front triangle ≈ 1330 cm² · effective top tube 631mm · seat tube 435mm
Trek Marlin 7 in size ML, drawn to scale from Trek's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1330 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Trek Marlin 7 — L. Front triangle ≈ 1411 cm² · effective top tube 647mm · seat tube 450mm
Trek Marlin 7 in size L, drawn to scale from Trek's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1411 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Trek Marlin 7 — XL. Front triangle ≈ 1641 cm² · effective top tube 678mm · seat tube 500mm
Trek Marlin 7 in size XL, drawn to scale from Trek's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1641 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Trek Marlin 7 — XXL. Front triangle ≈ 1848 cm² · effective top tube 707mm · seat tube 540mm
Trek Marlin 7 in size XXL, drawn to scale from Trek's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1848 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.

What this frame gives a loaded bike

Chainstay length is the gap between the seat tube and the rear axle, which a rack, panniers and your heels all have to share. Bottom bracket drop is how far the cranks sit below the axles. Both are compared against the median across every current frame we hold.

433-438mm chainstays, about the median for the 65 current frames here. Bottom bracket drop 45-60mm, 18mm less than the 70mm median. Trek publishes no fork cargo mounts, and no frame bottle positions are published. A rear rack bolts straight on. Widest published tire 61mm, the same on 700c / 29in and 650b / 27.5in and 26in. It takes a dropper post.

Every figure above is the manufacturer's, computed against the rest of the database. It says what the frame allows, not how it feels — nobody here has ridden it.

Bottom bracket height

Roughly 315–330mm off the ground. Trek doesn't publish this directly — we derive it from their BB drop and a typical 75cm tire diameter, so treat it as indicative rather than exact. It changes with the tire you fit. Lower means more stable and more pedal strikes; higher means the opposite.

Source — Trek's own geometry chart: https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bikes/mountain-bikes/cross-country-mountain-bikes/marlin/marlin-7-gen-3/p/41217/ — checked 2026-08-18. A dash means the figure isn't published; we leave it blank rather than estimate.

Note: Trek publishes geometry measurements in cm; lengths converted to mm. Wheel size is size-specific: XS and S are 27.5in; M, ML, L, XL and XXL are 29in. Dropper compatibility is from Trek's frame wording: internal derailleur & dropper post routing.

How the Marlin 7 compares

Against the frames people actually cross-shop it with — both charts held together, on the specs that decide what the bike carries.

Questions people ask about this frame

Answered from what Trek publish. Where they publish nothing, that is what it says.

Does the Marlin 7 take fork cargo cages?

Not published. Trek don't state any fork mount provision for this frame. That isn't the same as it having none, and we won't guess from a photo.

What is the widest tyre the Marlin 7 takes?

61mm on 700c / 29in. Across the wheel sizes Trek publish: 61mm on 700c / 29in, 61mm on 650b / 27.5in, 61mm on 26in. Those are frame figures, not the fork's — forks are routinely cut for more rubber than the rear triangle.

Will a seat pack work on the Marlin 7?

The dropper is the problem, not the pack. This frame publishes dropper routing, and a dropper and a seat pack want the same space — fitting one rules out almost every strap-on seat pack and leaves rail-mounted bags at a fraction of the volume. Run a rack or a saddle-rail bag if you want both.

Which frame bags fit

Every frame bag we track, checked against this frame's published geometry. Pick your size.

Checking 16 frame bags against a 631mm effective top tube and 435mm seat tube. 15 fit.

Read these as conservative. This size has a steeply sloping top tube — the seat tube is only 69% of the effective top tube. Bag makers publish a minimum seat tube length assuming a roughly level top tube, so on a frame like this the comparison understates how much room you actually have. The front triangle here is about 1330 cm², which is the number that actually decides what fits. Several bags marked unlikely below will physically fit. Half-frame bags don't depend on seat tube length at all.

Frame bag fit is calculated from Trek's published geometry, so it's as reliable as their chart. Seat packs and handlebar rolls depend on your exposed seatpost and bar width, which no geometry table lists — the bag finder covers those once you add your own measurements.
