Kona Sutra frame geometry, drawn to scale

Every tube angle and length below is from the published chart, not an illustration. The front triangle area is the number that decides which frame bags fit — and it changes a lot across sizes.

Kona Sutra — 48. Front triangle ≈ 1212 cm² · effective top tube 523mm · seat tube 480mm
Kona Sutra in size 48, drawn to scale from Kona's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1212 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Kona Sutra — 50. Front triangle ≈ 1296 cm² · effective top tube 538mm · seat tube 500mm
Kona Sutra in size 50, drawn to scale from Kona's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1296 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Kona Sutra — 52. Front triangle ≈ 1386 cm² · effective top tube 555mm · seat tube 520mm
Kona Sutra in size 52, drawn to scale from Kona's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1386 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Kona Sutra — 54. Front triangle ≈ 1477 cm² · effective top tube 571mm · seat tube 540mm
Kona Sutra in size 54, drawn to scale from Kona's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1477 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Kona Sutra — 56. Front triangle ≈ 1575 cm² · effective top tube 588mm · seat tube 560mm
Kona Sutra in size 56, drawn to scale from Kona's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1575 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.
Kona Sutra — 58. Front triangle ≈ 1674 cm² · effective top tube 605mm · seat tube 580mm
Kona Sutra in size 58, drawn to scale from Kona's published geometry. The shaded area is the front triangle — roughly 1674 cm² of space for a frame bag. Wheels are indicative; frame lines are accurate.

What this frame gives a loaded bike

Chainstay length is the gap between the seat tube and the rear axle, which a rack, panniers and your heels all have to share. Bottom bracket drop is how far the cranks sit below the axles. Both are compared against the median across every current frame we hold.

445mm chainstays, 10mm longer than the 435mm median across the 65 current frames here. Bottom bracket drop 70-74mm, close to the 70mm median. Kona publishes no fork cargo mounts, and no frame bottle positions are published. Kona publishes no rear rack answer, which is not the same as no — but it is not something to buy a rack on.

Every figure above is the manufacturer's, computed against the rest of the database. It says what the frame allows, not how it feels — nobody here has ridden it.

What it can carry

Mount provision and clearance, as Kona publishes it.

Geometry

All figures in millimeters except angles. Effective top tube and seat tube are the two that decide frame bag fit.

Bottom bracket height

Roughly 301–305mm off the ground. Kona doesn't publish this directly — we derive it from their BB drop and a typical 75cm tire diameter, so treat it as indicative rather than exact. It changes with the tire you fit. Lower means more stable and more pedal strikes; higher means the opposite.

Source — Kona's own geometry chart: https://konaworld.com/products/sutra-36sh — checked 2026-08-16. A dash means the figure isn't published; we leave it blank rather than estimate.

Note: Geometry verified from current Kona product page; mounts/clearance not captured from the checked source snippet.

How the Sutra compares

Against the frames people actually cross-shop it with — both charts held together, on the specs that decide what the bike carries.

Questions people ask about this frame

Answered from what Kona publish. Where they publish nothing, that is what it says.

Does the Sutra take fork cargo cages?

Not published. Kona don't state any fork mount provision for this frame. That isn't the same as it having none, and we won't guess from a photo.

What is the widest tyre the Sutra takes?

Not published in a form we can read. Kona don't publish a maximum tyre width for this frame.

Will a seat pack work on the Sutra?

Not published. Kona don't state dropper compatibility for this frame, so we can't tell you whether a dropper would compete with a seat pack on it.

Which frame bags fit

Every frame bag we track, checked against this frame's published geometry. Pick your size.

Checking 16 frame bags against a 571mm effective top tube and 540mm seat tube. 16 fit.

Frame bag fit is calculated from Kona's published geometry, so it's as reliable as their chart. Seat packs and handlebar rolls depend on your exposed seatpost and bar width, which no geometry table lists — the bag finder covers those once you add your own measurements.
